The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns
The King shall come when morning dawns,
And light triumphant breaks;
When beauty gilds the eastern hills,
And life to joy awakes.
Not as of old a little child
To bear, and fight, and die,
But crowned with glory like the sun
That lights the morning sky.
O brighter than the rising morn
When He, victorious, rose,
And left the lonesome place of death,
Despite the rage of foes.
O brighter than that glorious morn
Shall this fair morning be,
When Christ, our King, in beauty comes,
And we His face shall see.
The King shall come when morning dawns,
And earth’s dark night is past;
O haste the rising of that morn,
The day that aye shall last.
And let the endless bliss begin,
By weary saints foretold,
When right shall triumph over wrong,
And truth shall be extolled.
The King shall come when morning dawns,
And light and beauty brings:
Hail, Christ the Lord! Thy people pray,
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Come, Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s Strength and Consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear Desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.
Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
O Come, Divine Messiah
1. O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.
Refrain:
Dear Savior haste;
Come, come to earth,
Dispel the night and show Thy face,
And bid us hail the dawn of grace.
O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.
2. O Christ, whom nations sigh for,
Whom priest and prophet long foretold,
Come break the captive fetters;
Redeem the long-lost fold.
Refrain
3. You come in peace and meekness,
And lowly will Thy cradle be;
All clothed in human weakness
We shall Thy Godhead see.
Sing Out, Earth and Skies

1. Come, O God of all the earth:
Come to us, O Righteous One;
Come, and bring our love to birth:
In the glory of your Son.
Refrain
Sing out, earth and skies!
Sing of the God who loves you!
Raise your joyful cries!
Dance to the life around you!
2. Come, O God of wind and flame:
Fill the earth with righteousness;
Teach us all to sing your name:
May our lives your love confess.
3. Come, O God of flashing light:
Twinkling star and burning sun;
God of day and God of night:
In your light we all are one.
4. Come, O God of snow and rain:
Shower down upon the earth;
Come, O God of joy and pain:
God of sorrow, God of mirth.
5. Come, O Justice, Come, O Peace:
Come and shape our hearts anew;
Come and make oppression cease:
Bring us all to life in you.
My Soul In Stillness Waits
Refrain:
For you, O lord, my soul in stillness waits.
Truly my hope is in you.
1. O Lord of Light, our only hope of glory, your radiance shines in all who look to you. Come light the hearts of all in dark and shadow.
2. O Spring of Joy, rain down upon our spirits. Our thirsty hearts are yearning for your Word. Come, make us whole; be comfort to our hearts.
3. O Root of Life, implant your seed within us, and in your advent draw us all to you, our hope reborn in dying and in rising.
4. O Key of Knowledge, guide us in our pilgrimage, We ever seek, yet unfulfilled remain. Open to us the pathway of your peace.
5. Come, let us bow before the God who made us. Let every heart be opened to the Lord, for we are all the people of his hand.
6. Here we shall meet the makers of the heavens, creator of the mountains and the seas, Lord of the stars and present to us now.

Magnificat
Refrain: Proclaim the greatness of God, rejoice in God my Savior; rejoice in God my Savior!
For he has favored his lowly one, and all shall call me blessed.
The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
Refrain
He favors those who fear his name, in every generation.
He has shown the might and strength of his arm, and scattered the proud of heart.
Refrain
He has cast the mighty form their thrones, and lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with all good things, and sent the rich away.
Refrain
He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy.
He promised his mercy to Abraham and his children for ever more.

Creator of the Stars of Night
Creator of the stars of night,
Thy people’s everlasting light,
Jesu, Redeemer, save us all,
And hear Thy servants when they call.
Thou, grieving that the ancient curse
Should doom to death a universe,
Hast found the medicine, full of grace,
To save and heal a ruined race.
Thou cam’st, the Bridegroom of the bride,
As drew the world to evening-tide;
Proceeding from a virgin shrine,
The spotless Victim all divine.
At Whose dread Name, majestic now,
All knees must bend, all hearts must bow;
And things celestial Thee shall own,
And things terrestrial, Lord alone.
O Thou Whose coming is with dread
To judge and doom the quick and dead,
Preserve us, while we dwell below,
From every insult of the foe.
To God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, Three in One,
Laud, honor, might, and glory be
From age to age eternally.
On Jordan's Bank
On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry
Announces that the Lord is nigh;
Awake and hearken, for He brings
Glad tidings of the King of kings.
2. Then cleansed be every heart from sin;
Make straight the way of God within;
Oh, let us all our hearts prepare
For Christ to come and enter there.
3. To heal the sick stretch out Thine hand,
And bid the fallen sinner stand;
Shine forth, and let Thy light restore
Earth's own true loveliness once more.
4. All praise, eternal Son, to Thee,
Whose advent sets Thy people free;
Whom with the Father we adore
And Holy Ghost forever more.
Save Us, O Lord
Refrain:
Save us, O Lord, carry us back, rouse your power and come.
Rescue your people, show us your face, bring us back.
O Shepherd of Israel hear us. Return and we shall be saved.
Arise, O Lord, hear our cries, O Lord; bring us back!
Refrain
How long will you hide from your people? we long to see your face,
give ear to us, draw near to us, Lord God of hosts!
Refrain
Turn again, care for your vine, protect what your right hand has planted,
Your vineyards are trampled, uprooted and burned. Come to us, Father of Might!
Refrain

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel and ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear.

O come, O Wisdom from on high, Who orders all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show, And teach us in her way to go.
Refrain
O come, O come, great Lord of might Who to your tribes, on Sinai's height
In ancient times once gave the law In cloud and majesty and awe.
Refrain
O come, O rod of Jesse’s stem From every foe deliver them
That trust your mighty power to save and give them victory o'er the grave
Refrain
O come, O Key of David, come And open wide our heavenly home
Make safe the way that leads on high And close the path to misery.
People, Look East
1. People, look east. The time is near
Of the crowning of the year.
Make your house fair as you are able,
Trim the hearth and set the table.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the guest, is on the way.
2. Furrows, be glad. Though earth is bare,
One more seed is planted there:
Give up your strength the seed to nourish,
That in course the flower may flourish.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the rose, is on the way.
3. Birds, though you long have ceased to build,
Guard the nest that must be filled.
Even the hour when wings are frozen
God for fledging time has chosen.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the bird, is on the way.
4. Stars, keep the watch. When night is dim
One more light the bowl shall brim,
Shining beyond the frosty weather,
Bright as sun and moon together.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the star, is on the way.
5. Angels, announce with shouts of mirth
Christ who brings new life to earth.
Set every peak and valley humming
With the word, the Lord is coming.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the Lord, is on the way.
"The Advent of Our King"
by Charles Coffin, 1676-1749
Translated by John Chandler, 1806-1876
1. The advent of our King
Our prayers must now employ,
And we must hymns of welcome sing
In strains of holy joy.
2. The everlasting Son
Incarnate deigns to be;
Himself a servant's form puts on
To set His servants free.
3. O Zion's Daughter, rise
To meet thy lowly King,
Nor let thy faithless heart despise
The peace He comes to bring.
4. As Judge, on clouds of light,
He soon will come again
And His true members all unite
With Him in heaven to reign.
5. Before the dawning day
Let sin's dark deeds be gone,
The old man all be put away,
The new man all put on.
6. All glory to the Son,
Who comes to set us free,
With Father, Spirit, ever One,
Through all eternity.
